2009 NAIDOC artwork

Photo of people celebrating Reconciliation.

Foundations, designed by Leigh Harris and Justin Majid of Cairns-based ingeous studios, the Department of Communities' official artwork for 2009 NAIDOC Week materials.

The Foundations artwork represents both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. It is symbolic of the role that Elders play in shaping communities and nurturing children.

The centrepiece of the design represents Elders and children and depicts Elders as the solid foundation of community. The centrepiece grows from the design's lower elements, which are symbolic of land, water and earth. The large oval symbols represent Indigenous communities.
