Our minister

Desley Boyle, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships.

Desley Boyle was sworn in as Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services on 26 March 2009.

Ms Boyle was elected to Parliament on 13 June 1998 - the first woman to represent Cairns. As Member for Cairns and a long term resident of Far North Queensland she has been a strong supporter of Indigenous issues for many years.

Ms Boyle's previous Ministerial responsibilities have included serving as Minister for Local Government and Planning (2004), Minister for Environment, Local Government, Planning and Women (2004-06), Minister for Child Safety (2006-07) and Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry (2007-09).

Since taking up the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services portfolio it has been her priority to meet with elected representatives, Elders and community members around the state. Ms Boyle is committed to practical action contributing to closing the gap in Indigenous disadvantage especially in Queensland's remote communities.

Prior to her political career, Ms Boyle worked as a clinical and organisational psychologist. She holds Masters degrees in business administration and psychology. She has three children and two grandchildren.
