The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Council gives the Queensland Government advice on policies, programs, services and partnerships to support Tomorrow's Queensland and Closing the Gap targets.
The council members provide a direct link between Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander people and government.
The Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships will chair the meetings, with the Premier participating when possible.
The advisory council is made up of 14 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women from across all age groups. Participants come from a mix of urban, regional and remote areas and may represent entrepreneurial, economic, cultural, social and/or environmental interest groups.

The first formal council meeting was held in February 2009 with a subsequent meetings held in May and September 2009. The next Advisory Council meeting will be held in Brisbane from 1-2 December 2009.
Council members are appointed for 2 years.
