Negotiation tables

A man and two women discuss agenda items at a meeting.

A negotiation table is a formal meeting that brings together government and community decision-makers to:

  • share information
  • explore, debate, progress, negotiate or resolve complex issues that need cross-government and/or government-community action or decision making
  • incorporate the communities' and government's understanding of issues and proposals to reach agreement on:
    • priorities and desired outcomes
    • commitment to and responsibility for specific actions
  • develop, formalise, review and/or renegotiate a Local Indigenous Partnership Agreement (LIPA)
  • review and report on actions arising from previous negotiation tables
  • acknowledge and celebrate progress, successes and achievements to date
