About Charleville

In 1847, Edmund Kennedy explored the Warrego River. This small town in far west Queensland played a significant part in of Australia's aviation history. Amy Johnson was the first woman to land there in 1920. The aviation tradition continues with Charleville being an important base of the Flying Doctor Service.

Charleville is the base for the School of Distance Education, which teaches children living on isolated properties.

The Bidjara people are the traditional owners of the Charleville country and surrounding areas including Augathella, Morven and south to Wyandra.
