Depression, anxiety and mental health

If you, your friend or a family member are suffering from depression or anxiety, it's good to know where you can go for help.

These websites are a good place to start if you're looking for information on mental health problems.

  • Australian Indigenous Mental Health is mainly to help health professionals understand mental health issues from an Indigenous perspective but has some interesting case studies.
  • Beyond Blue has some specific programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as well as general information on depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and post natal depression.
  • Black Dog Institute has information about depression, bi polar disorder and other mental health issues. It also has personal stories, poetry, songs and books about people's experiences with mental health problems.
  • Blue pages has information, resources and help for people suffering from anxiety and depression.
  • Forensic mental health information for Indigenous communities is a Queensland Government site that has information if you or someone you know has a mental illness and has been charged with an indictable (serious) offence. 
  • Headspace is a website for young people who are going through tough times. It has stories, photo galleries and online games.
  • Lifeline has Indigenous Emotional Wellbeing toolkits, Health, Wellbeing and Resilience toolkits and an information brochure with youth-friendly advice on where to go for help.
