Strong communities need strong leaders. If you're interested in becoming a leader in your community, or have some leadership skills but want to learn more, have a look at the following programs.
Many of the leadership courses and conferences are free or low cost to attend.
Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre is a Registered Training Organisation offering accredited courses in Indigenous leadership. The courses aim to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people the knowledge, skills and capacity to become effective leaders in their communities.
The Australian Government sponsors this leadership program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women and youth (18 years and over). Applications are now open and close on Friday 19 June 2009. Apply now.
The Office for Women offers free seminars in communities across Queensland to develop Indigenous women's leadership skills. You can share your knowledge, learn new skills, find out about training opportunities and develop networks.
Oxfam is organising this conference for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. You'll learn about how Australia's political system works and how you can help bring about change.
This Queensland Government sponsored program brings together young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from across the state. At the program you can learn leadership skills, develop networks and talk about specific community issues.
